2011 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief
The massive 8.9 earthquake that rocked Japan on Friday, March 11th and the ensuing tsunami have wreaked widespread destruction. At this time the full extent of the loss of life and devastation is not known. Activated Ministries is partnering with resident missionaries in Japan who are already engaged in assisting those impacted by this disaster. Please help the relief efforts by designating a cash donation to the Japan Earthquake & Tsunami relief. Activated Ministries is also committing the proceeds from all vehicle donations received from March 11th through 14th to relief for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
Thank you for your generous donation to help in this time of need.
Activated Ministries has partnered with international projects to provide disaster relief services in previous earthquakes, the Asian tsunami and hurricanes:
Comforting the victims of the Chile earthquake
Following the massive earthquake in Chile on February 27th 2010, Help for the Andes foundation made a number of relief aid trips to the Chilean city of Constitucion which is about 360 kilometers south of the capital, Santiago.
Comfort for the Victims of the Peru Earthquakes
On August 15, 2007, two violent earthquakes shook the country of Peru, killing over 600 people and destroying 40,000 houses. The earthquakes, which lasted over two minutes, were 7.5 and 7.9 degrees on the Richter scale. After our first missions into the disaster zone, a team of voluntary members from The Family International made a commitment to continue to bring as much aid and comfort as possible to the affected people.
Tsunami Disaster Relief OverviewOur partner Southeast Asia mission bases worked night and day to help relieve the suffering in Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and Indonesia.
Relief Update from Banda Aceh, Sumatra
Missionaries in Sumatra partnered with a Korean medical team to help a village with about 3,000 people living in the hills above where their 5 villages used to be before the tsunami. The camp was surviving on aid which is being transported in daily and the people were in makeshift tents which were basically plastic sheeting stretched over polls. With no running water or any type of toilet facilities their survival was very difficult and they were extremely susceptible to disease.
A Personal Account - Tsunami Relief
By the time I arrived in Phuket, coworkers Hanna and Mike had already been there for a couple of days, and had helped with–among other things—translating and orientation for Scandinavian relatives of some of those that were missing.
Report on Tsunami Relief Work - Phuket Thailand
Arriving in Phuket, we first went to the city hall which was the coordination center for the relief efforts in the area. The atmosphere there was one of desperation and uncertainty as relatives searched for missing loved ones and rescue teams headed out to the worst hit areas to look for survivors—or more likely, the bodies of those who had perished in the disaster. Bulletin boards lined the driveway and hallways, covered with pictures of those who had not yet been found. Between all of us on our team, we could speak Thai, English as well as the Scandinavian languages so we were immediately called upon to help translate for distraught foreigners who were trying to get information or locate loved ones.
Activated Ministries Katrina Relief Project
On Monday, August 29th, Hurricane Katrina hammered New Orleans and the coasts of Mississippi and Louisiana leaving thousands dead and hundreds of thousands of refugees who have been streaming into neighboring states and cities. The magnitude of this human tragedy is hard to comprehend, and Activated Ministries is actively working with missionaries oftheFamily International who are offering physical and spiritual assistance to the hurricane victims.
