Mission to Flores, Indonesia
By Maggie Suranto
In the month of June, we sent a volunteer team to Flores, a beautiful and remote island in the eastern part of Indonesia with a predominately Catholic population. We had received a large amount of donated school supplies which we wanted to distribute at the schools and orphanages there.
At the same time, Activated Ministries sponsored fifty “Dasar Firman” books, an Indonesian language version of “Bible Basics”, a topical study Bible. This was a great answer to prayer as our main desire was to not only be a help to the people there in the physical but offer something to strengthen their faith and be an encouragement to them as well.
After the adventures involved in getting to Flores we started our trip in Ruteng, a picturesque mountain town and regional capital, where we stayed at the invitation of a friend. Most of the books sponsored by Activated Ministries were given to Pastor Alfons, the region’s main church overseer, and supervisor of the pastors. He received the books enthusiastically, commenting that it was just what they needed and that they would be a big help as a study aid to Bible college students and novice pastors.
Some of the books were also given to the Mother Superior from a local Catholic school for underprivileged children who will be using them for the student’s and teacher’s benefit. Apart from the 50 books, in our short stay in Flores we also distributed over 1,200 posters, and prayed with over 350 individuals to receive Jesus into their hearts! We also gave sponsored VCD sets to two schools and an orphanage.
We would like to thank Activated Ministries for their donation of the books which are certain to be a source of faith and inspiration to all those who received them.
