Offering hope to children of Ciudad Juarez

William J. Jones

For the second year in a row, Activated Ministries has sponsored thousands of books for our volunteers at La Hora De Ser Feliz to distribute to the orphans and underprivileged children of the war-torn city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. This city had a short period of relative peace when thousands of soldiers were deployed to maintain order in time for the Dia De Nino (Children Day) festivities on April 30th. However, the city was shut down due to the swine flu scare and any activities involving groups of people were cancelled. We were able to re-schedule our project for the 14th of May.

This year, the event was held in an area about 20 miles out of town. This meant that we were able to perform our puppet and clown show and give the books to thousands of children that couldn’t attend the year before. We had a great turnout with thousands of children and their families traveling by bus and on foot to attend the event. Thanks to the sponsorship of books from Activated Ministries, the kids were able to take home something that will help them to remember this special event for a long time. Every effort to bring hope and encouragement to the people of this ravaged city is tangibly felt and greatly appreciated.
