Patricino un Libro’s 2009 Children’s Day celebration

Isabelle Nizincourt

Our volunteers at Patrocina un Libro celebrated Children’s Day 2009 at the “Arena Santa Lucia” in Monterrey, Mexico. This year Children’s Day came a little later than usual due to the swine flu scare, but thankfully by June 13 everything was back to normal and we were able to organize a special event for patients in the children’s wing of the Metropolitan Hospital as well as children from local orphanages.

Our event began at 12:00 p.m. and finished at 5:30 p.m. In those hours, 40 volunteers from Patricino un Libro and other organizations were able to provide the following:

  • Over 1,000 lunches served
  • A face painting and sculptured balloon for each child
  • 1,300 educational story books were given to the children
  • Free clothes and shoes
  • Two 30 minute puppet shows by "Small World Playhouse"
  • A 30 minute presentation from a well known local figure who promotes healthy living values

We want to thank Activated Ministries for their generous sponsorship of 1,300 beautifully illustrated Christian books which instill the values, courage and faith that these children need to persevere despite their grim circumstances. Thank you for helping us to make a difference in their lives.
